The Power of Authority: Walking in Dominion and Unshakable Truth
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." — Matthew 28:18
Many people struggle in spiritual warfare because they do not fully understand their authority. They cry out to God for deliverance, unaware that He has already given them everything they need to command victory. Jesus didn’t just conquer darkness—He transferred His authority to us.
Authority is not found in striving. It is not about dramatic displays of power. True authority is the quiet, unshakable dominion of one who knows who they are in Christ.
I learned this firsthand in 2024, after a 15-day fast that opened my eyes to what it truly means to walk in the authority of Jesus.
The Dream: Confronting a Spirit Through Authority
After 14 days of what was commanded to be 15 days of fasting—four days of water-only and eleven before that of just celery and apples—I had seen God move powerfully. Strongholds in my life shattered. Fear dissolved. Truth became clearer than ever.
One afternoon, during the fast, I was with friends at the river when one received a message from a doula colleague. A mother in labor was in distress—her baby showed no signs of life. The monitors were still. The ultrasound confirmed no movement.
I knew what God could do. I asked, “Does she want us to pray?”
She did.
I prayed as if the child were already alive. I saw her heart beating. I saw her taking her first steps. I saw her going to preschool. I believed completely that God was restoring her. I sang out in exaltation the celebration of this child's life in private as I returned home.
I even prophesied that my friend would hear from the mother, telling her the baby was alive and would be born that day. That day, a word was received and the baby was born well and alive!
The next day, still deep in my fast, I made a mistake—I broke my fast prematurely when I went to dinner with my husband. I didn't want to leave for my trip to Peru that this fast was preceding without first having a decadent date with my husband. That night, I had a dream. A dream that revealed the power of true authority in Christ.
The Dream: "Oh, I’m Possessed?"
In the dream I came to, lying on my bed, waking up to the sound of growling. But it wasn’t coming from outside of me—it was coming from me.
My husband was calmly pinning me down. His face was not fearful, not frantic—but firm, steady, authoritative.
I realized what was happening. Oh, I’m possessed? I asked.
"Yes," he said, completely unfazed.
But I wasn’t afraid. I knew what to do. I said, "Let’s ask it questions. Ask how long it’s been here."
As the spirit manifested, a wave of excruciating pain hit my body. My voice, no longer my own, growled out: "2,300 years."
He continued asking questions—how it entered, what gave it permission—but the details became blurry. What happened next was a revelation I will never forget.
I said, "Cast it out."
And all my husband did was speak one simple command with complete authority:
"Okay. Leave Now."
And it left. Instantly.
No spectacle. No shouting. Just authority.
I sat up, shaken, a little dizzy. "Wow… that was a lot. I don’t even know what to do now."
My husband simply replied, "Well, you could go take care of your ice cream bowl."
There was an empty ice cream bowl on my nightstand. I picked it up and carried it to the kitchen.
The Mirror and the Black Eyes
As I walked down the hallway toward the kitchen, something nudged me toward the bathroom.
I stepped inside, set the bowl on the counter, and looked up into the mirror.
My gaze was met by my own eyes, but completely black eyes stared back at me.
A wave of fear threatened to pull me into manifestation—but instead of letting it take hold, I simply remembered Jesus, mouthing His name.
In an instant, the black drained from my eyes, and as it drained it transformed to tears that streamed down my face. My eyes returned to normal.
From the other room, my husband’s voice called out gently again, "Honey, don’t forget to take care of your ice cream bowl."
The Revelation: Authority Is Not a Feeling—It’s a Position
That dream revealed something life-changing:
-
Authority is not in emotion—it’s in position.
- My husband did not yell. He did not engage in battle. He simply commanded with authority, and the demon had no choice but to leave.
- "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you." — Luke 10:19
-
Authority comes from knowing Jesus—not from knowing the enemy.
- The demon claimed it had been there 2,300 years—but the truth is, it doesn’t matter how long it had been there. The name of Jesus is above every name (Philippians 2:9).
- My husband didn’t need to know its name, origin, or strategy. He just needed to command it to leave.
-
Breaking a commanded fast prematurely can open doors.
- Fasting is not a ritual—it is a spiritual discipline that strengthens our ability to hear and see in the Spirit.
- Jesus said, "This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting." — Matthew 17:21
-
Self-deliverance happens when you remember who you are.
- When I saw my black eyes in the mirror, I could have given in to fear—but I didn’t. I remembered Jesus.
- The moment I realigned with truth, the darkness had to leave.
- "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." — James 4:7
-
Deliverance is not just about removing demons—it’s about walking in responsibility.
- The ice cream bowl represented personal responsibility.
- Yes, I had been delivered, but now what? I needed to keep walking in authority, not dwell on what had left.
Authority Is Not Earned—It Is Given
Many believers struggle because they do not understand their position. They ask God for power when He has already given it to them.
Jesus did not say, "I will give you authority someday."
He said, "I have given you authority." (Luke 10:19)
You don’t have to earn it. You don’t have to feel it. You simply have to stand in it.
"And He raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus." — Ephesians 2:6
You are already seated with Christ.
You already carry His authority.
The enemy does not obey because you feel strong.
The enemy obeys because Jesus is King, and you belong to Him.
Walk in Authority. Do Not Shrink Back.
Deliverance is not about dramatic displays of power. It is about knowing who you are in Christ.
You don’t need to yell. You don’t need to strive.
You just need to stand.
Because when you do, darkness has no choice but to flee.
So today, walk in the authority you already have.
Command with confidence.
Renounce fear.
Declare truth.
And watch the Kingdom of God advance.
